Valspar Championship records its first sellout

The Valspar Championship recorded the first sellout in tournament history.

The tournament that began in 200 as the Tampa Bay Classic has an illustrious list of champions including Jordan Spieth (2015), Jim Furyk (2010), Vijay Singh (2004), Luke Donald (2012) and Mark Calcavecchia (2007).

Two-time U.S. Open champion Retief Goosen is a two-time winner of this event.

In spite of this impressive list of winners, this year’s event made history as the first time they have suspended ticket sales.

The field that only featured 4 of the top 15 players in the world took another hit with big names like Justin Thomas, Bubba Watson and Ernie Els among those who missed the 36-hole cut on Friday, but that obviously did not keep the golf fans of the Tampa area from showing up in record numbers.

Saturday at the Valspar Championship also featured Valspar LIVE featuring a concert by country music superstar Toby Keith.
