This week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard is the first edition of the annual PGA Tour tournament held at the Bay Hill Club & Lodge since the death of the event’s namesake last September. The star-studded field includes Rory McIlroy, who took to social media to post a letter Palmer sent him after his U.S. Open victory at Congressional Country Club.
“A letter from AP after my first major,” McIlroy tweeted. “Great words of wisdom as always. Can’t wait to play
@APinv this week and celebrate his amazing life.”
Palmer’s letter was full of praise for McIlroy’s dominating performance that saw him finish eight strokes ahead of Jason Day.
“I was very impressed with the way you handled yourself throughout the tournament,” Palmer wrote. “Your total game – tee to green and the putting – was really solid and it looked like you were enjoying yourself in the process.”

McIlroy is paired with Brandt Snedeker and Palmer’s grandson, Sam Saunders, for the first two rounds.
