Three-time major champion Padraig Harrington announced on his Twitter account that he was having neck surgery and would be out for a period of eight to 10 weeks. The 45 year-old who is currently ranked No. 156 in the world, has a target date of the Memorial in late May as his return.

The Open Championship returns to Royal Birkdale this year, the site of his win in 2008, so by having the surgery now, Harrington should have sufficient time for recovery.

Harrington’s last worldwide win was last fall at the Portugal Masters. Prior to that win, his last victory was the 2008 PGA Championship at Oakland Hills Country Club.
